Church clock is now working again and after 122 years the mechanism has been refurbished.
This one minute video shows the clock striking 12
Built 122 years ago in 1897, it’s called a Turret Clock and in fact is a smaller version of the clock mechanism in Big Ben
It needs winding twice a week
The dials are nearly 6 feet across
Number of ticks since 1897 - over 3.9billion
It now been overhauled by local Clock expert Leon Harvey who has completely refurbished the bearings and running gear for a very reasonable price and the clock mechanism is now working again. We thank Leon for his work over the past few months and would recommend him for similar projects.
The next phase will be the removal and refurbishment of the badly weathered clock faces which will be the subject of later appeals but is expected to be several thousand pounds.
